ABOUT

Our story

Our co-founder Sergio “Keko” Gontán grew up in Madrid and debuted for Atlético Madrid in La Liga at age 16. He was the U17 and U20 Spain National's team captain. Over the next decade he logged more than 250 top‑flight appearances in Spain, playing for Málaga, Eibar and Real Valladolid. He also competed in Italy’s Serie A before moving to the United States to join Sacramento Republic FC in 2022. Keko’s European career taught him the importance of disciplined training, resilience and supportive team cultures.

Having benefited from structured academies, he recognised that many U.S. children, especially in underserved communities, lack access to quality coaching.

Keko founded KG Soccer to bring professional‑level training and inclusive team experiences to public schools. Alongside a small team of certified coaches, he adapted the training methods he learned in La Liga and Serie A to suit elementary and middle‑school players.

KG Soccer coaches emphasise ball mastery, game intelligence and positive character traits. Keko remains actively involved in curriculum design and often visits partner schools to mentor players and share his story. His journey from a young academy player to a professional competing across Europe and the U.S. reinforces the programme’s belief that every child deserves access and support to realise their potential.

Mission & Values

KG Soccer exists to give children in underserved school communities the same developmental soccer experience enjoyed by club players. By bringing structured, high‑quality training directly into public schools, we remove barriers like travel, try‑outs and high fees. Our mission is to cultivate access, a sense of belonging and holistic development through the world’s most inclusive sport.

  • Access – Structured training inside schools: KG Soccer coaches deliver two on‑campus sessions every week, providing certified coaching, uniforms and equipment at no extra cost. No try‑outs or selection cuts are required; every child is welcome.
  • Belonging – Teams built for inclusion: We intentionally design teams and activities to be welcoming rather than exclusive. Players learn teamwork, respect and sportsmanship in a safe environment where they feel part of a community.
  • Development – Skills, discipline and confidence: Our curriculum focuses on technical skill, tactical understanding, discipline and positive habits that translate beyond soccer. Players gain self‑confidence and resilience on the field and in the classroom.

Collectively, these values ensure that KG Soccer is “more than a program”. It is a pathway for young people to grow into confident, healthy community members through sport.

Our approach

KG Soccer programs improve school attendance, focus, and physical health while fostering a strong sense of belonging. Students develop habits that support both academic achievement and personal growth.

We manage everything, including coaches, equipment, scheduling, and league coordination, so schools can stay focused on education while students enjoy a safe and positive environment to grow.

By combining professional playing experience with a strong emphasis on education and character development, KG Soccer helps the next generation thrive both on the field and in life.
